Davengere, Karnataka, February 27,2018 : Fortis Hospitals Bangalore today launched advanced clinic for Urology in Davangere, Karnataka. With an objective to provide accessibility to patients who otherwise have to travel to Bangalore for all kinds of kidney problems, SS Fortis Urology Centre has been set up in central Karnataka.
The center was inaugurated by Mr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA & Ex. Cabinet Minister, Government of Karnataka, and Chairman of Bapuji Educational Association along with Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, Director – Urology, Uro-Oncology, Andrology & Transplant Surgery, Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore.
The Fortis Urology team comprises of 15 urologist performing 10,000 surgeries, 360 complex urological procedures in a year. The team covers around 15 locations in Karnataka and surrounding states and 7 locations outside India.
In line with this, Dr. Vishnuvardhan PS – Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham road, said “With the increasing life expectancy and prevalence of life style diseases, there has been an increase in chronic kidney diseases in India. There is a huge population who needs to be treated with kidney related ailments, therefore there is a need for specialized urology facilities in remotest areas of the country. The techniques used for the treatment of kidney related ailments need specialized intervention with diagnostics, evaluation and methods. Our aim is to provide patients best facilities in every possible way”.
As per the research report by NCBI on rural belt of Karnataka, ‘The population had a mean age of 39.88 ± 15.87 years with 3.82% prevalence of diabetes and 33.62% of hypertension. Researchers found 6.3% prevalence of chronic kidney diseases stage 3; which is the highest reported till date by any Indian worker. It is disturbing to note, the high prevalence of hypertension in a rural setting where over 75% population had normal or low body mass index.’

The new urology center at Davangere is the pioneer in providing Laser TURP for prostate treatment for the people of central Karnataka. Also, other treatments like advanced kidney transplant care and lithotripsy laser treatment for kidney stone treatment, advanced impotency & erectile dysfunction treatment and incontinence treatment would be provided to patients.
